Innovations in Ink and Laser-Based Printing Technologies

The two most basic printing technologies that most people probably know already are ink and laser. However, numerous innovations have been introduced in these two printing technologies with increasing user needs. For instance, PageWide and Ink Tank technologies were introduced to combat some key challenges in ink-based printers that made them unsuitable for business users or high-volume printing. Similarly, there’s toner tank technology that allows easy refill of toner cartridges in laser printers.

PageWide Technology

The PageWide technology was introduced by HP to provide high-speed and affordable ink-based printing for business users. It overcame the cost and speed limitations of inkjet printers, which were expensive and slow. At the same time, they were quieter and consumed less power than lasers, which made them suitable for offices. The technology uses a stationary print head containing an array of 42,240 nozzles that produce ink drops with uniform drop weight, speed, and trajectory. So in this technology, it’s the page that moves in the printer and not the print head. This is what makes PageWide based printers and MFPs less noisy and in fact faster. PageWide printers can support printing speeds of up to 75 pages per minute.

Ink Tank Printers

The technology used by Inkjet and Ink tank is very similar, with the difference that ink tank printers use a refillable tank system and ink bottles to handle printing duties. You can refill the tank according to the amount of printing you need to do. The continuous ink system provides ink via an airtight tube to the print head. Ink bottles have also been proven to be much more economical than ink cartridges due to their high ink capacity providing less cost per page in the long run. These printers are ideal for people who print a lot on a daily basis and do not want to call for assistance every time they need a cartridge change. Laser Printers

These printers come with a toner tank instead of a cartridge that can be refilled with a toner reload kit.
